Darth Maul’s Episode I lightsaber is one of the most iconic weapons in Star Wars history. Forged under the guidance of Darth Sidious, the double-bladed red lightsaber was designed to overwhelm opponents through speed, unpredictability, and sheer intimidation.
 
The elongated hilt houses two corrupted kyber crystals, allowing Maul to ignite one or both blades as needed. This configuration perfectly suited Maul’s aggressive, acrobatic fighting style and his mastery of Form VII (Juyo). Until revealing himself on Naboo, Maul kept the weapon hidden, reflecting the Sith’s Rule of Two and their secrecy.
 
When ignited against Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, the lightsaber symbolized the Sith’s return after a thousand years in hiding. Its loss during Maul’s defeat marked the end of the Sith’s secrecy—but not Maul’s hatred—cementing the weapon as a symbol of fear, revelation, and the rebirth of the dark side.
