Ben Solo’s lightsaber journey reflects his fractured identity and struggle between light and dark. As a Jedi apprentice under Luke Skywalker, Ben originally wielded a traditional blue-bladed lightsaber, symbolizing his place in the Jedi lineage. When Ben fell to the dark side and destroyed Luke’s temple, he shattered his kyber crystal in anger, causing it to crack and become unstable.
To contain the volatile energy, Ben reforged the weapon into the infamous crossguard lightsaber known as Kylo Ren’s, with vented side blades to release excess power. The weapon’s violent, crackling red blade mirrors Ben’s inner turmoil. In The Rise of Skywalker, Ben ultimately discards the dark weapon, reclaiming his identity and rejecting the lightsaber that represented his pain, anger, and fall from the light.
