Kanan Jarrus’ lightsaber was originally built during his time as Caleb Dume, a Jedi Padawan trained by Master Depa Billaba. Designed with a two-part, detachable hilt, the weapon could be separated and concealed, a feature that later proved vital after Order 66.
When the Jedi Purge began, Kanan survived but lost his master and went into hiding. For years, he kept the lightsaber broken down and unused, symbolizing his fear, guilt, and separation from the Force. As he reclaimed his identity and began training Ezra Bridger, Kanan reassembled and wielded the lightsaber again. By the time of his sacrifice, the weapon had become a symbol of redemption, resilience, and the return of Jedi purpose in an age of darkness.
